Cape Coral commercial corridor gearing up for more growth-According to the Summer 2011 Update from the City Newsletter publication "On the Move"-the recently approved partnership between the City and the Florida Department of Transportation will create new and exciting opportunities for economic development on th two-mile stretch of Pine Island Roas between Chiquita blvd and Burnt Store Road.
"The possibilities for economic development associated with the widening of Pine island Road are simply incredible, " says City Manager Gary King. "The 10 year projection of economic impact at build-out could be in the billions of dollars range."
With its large parcels, this 2-mile stretch of road could support about 7 million square feet of development with 6,000 to 7,000 employees. This areea has been touted as a potential location for the city's first shopping mall. If this were to happen, hot only would it provide jobs, a mall would create a destination location in the city. This in turn would attract other developements and employment opportunities.

The Pine Island Corridor in Cape Coral has seen some major changes in the last decade. With commercial zoning limited in Cape Coral, this 2,400 acre corridor is emerging as the new "main street" for future generations. With utilities in and many successful stores already in place, Pine Island Road continues to attract more and more businesses.
